2013
This is just another one of those end of the year posts... similar to everything you see online, on instagram, or whatever.
2013 was an amazing year. The year can mostly be summed up by...
A bipolar cat, formerly known as Taco, now known as Frankie.
The waiting for the opening of Qui.
The opening of Qui.
The best dish I had at Qui.
The 2nd best dish I had at Qui.
A popup art show in a random alleyway downtown.
The Summer spent studying at cafe's
Hanging out at cafe's such as Cenote, Cherrywood,
Halcyon,
and Epoch, where I ran into Eli Reed, my old photography professor who was meeting up with
...Emree. We were entertained for 3 hours straight by Eli's stories... and despite sitting through an entire semester of them, he never runs out of new material. "So Stephen Spielberg wanted me to be the photography director for his movie... and I didn't want to... but his assistant called me and they convinced me to fly to his house to discuss things." - just another day for Eli.
And of course... the opening of Brew & Brew, the best cafe / brewhouse ever.
Just cafe's? Just coffee?
Of course not. The best beer I had this year definitely came from Lone Pint - the Yellow Rose and Degen Smash, with the best common bottle being the Accumulation Winter IPA from New Belgium.
Nasty's Tuesdays started. (If you're in Austin, and it's Tuesday night [10pm] go to Nasty's) Cheap margs yo.
There were days where we went hard.
There were more days where we went hard.
and days where we went even harder...
but there's no hangover that Ramen Tatsuya's lunch ramen can't fix.
There were weddings.
Some more famous than others.
And more weddings...
And a funeral.
But with thoughts about death... and all the fears we have pertaining to what comes after...
there are also notions of life, new beginnings, and what is happening in the now.
I went to church for the first time. They had Cuvee coffee and fancy pastries.
There was music. Most notably: Haim, Phoenix, Pinback, Toro y Moi, Foreign Mothers, The Royalty, Metric, and Young The Giant (for the 6th time).
There were music festivals as well... volunteering to carry in boxes of beer allowed me to get into this Tokimonsta show,
where I saw inspiring ways to display photos and digital media.
ACL was a blast.
Good music and good company.
Oh yeah, and who could forget about #fitpics?
And... who could forget that AMAZING warehouse party?!
There was a fair amount of traveling.
San Fran, 2 weeks.
Chapel Hill, 1 month.
DC, 3 days.
There was also fair amount of exploring in a town I thought I was familar with.
I met some new friends.
And with them took the best picture I've ever taken.
Had to say bye to a few people as well.
Oh yeah. Bikes!
There were days that... just went perfectly. Without a hitch.
And those days where I was lonely on purpose and not on purpose.
2013 was a good year.
